Art is my form of release and meditation. I am an artist to deal with the stress, frustration, and beauty in life. When my mind is in disarray over pressure from friends, family, or school, I paint. When I am pressured to act on the beauty and vibrancy of the natural or synthetic worlds so often displayed before my eyes, I take a photograph. Or when my heart burns in anger over social or political maltreatment, I do anything within my power to express my thoughts artistically. Art is my way of saying to the world “This is what I think”. When people look ay my artwork I of course hope I they are impressed or at least respect what I am trying to accomplish. I hope that even if they object to the subject or are disgusted by the image they can still appreciate my effort and my approach to solving a problem. I do not expect my audience to either love or hate my artwork; I simply expect them to appreciate it. The artwork I chose to display in my portfolio was selected mainly because it exhibits a diverse selection of my creative ability. Some of the artwork was also selected to showcase my best work that reflected what I explained above: artwork created as a result of stress, inspired by beauty, or out of socio-political anger. For example, my piece titled Man Version 2.0 is a reaction to a society that mainly lives to work. However, also included in this piece are corporate logos, specifically Enron. This symbolizes employers taking advantage of workers loyalty and the betrayal of the workers by some corporations. I deliberately made this painting especially large to show that the content I paint about is a big problem. Most of my other showcased work basically follows this same emotional pattern and, along with quality, serve as their purpose in this portfolio.
